Me
A little bit about me, the owner of McDonalds Motorcycle Repair.

My name is Timothy Keith McDonald. I was born in 1957 here in Casey County KY. Raised on the family farm I got to experience that thing called work first hand. If things had gone a little different I would have been a farmer.

When I was a child we recieved several catalogs thru the mail. This was my introduction to motorcycles. One catalog we recieved was JC Penny. At that particular time JC Penny carried Benelli mini-bikes. Two colors red and blue. I was a source of constant irritation to my mother and father for a period of time because of those little pictures in that catalog. Since my parents were practical as well as frugal I never got one of those little bikes. However the stage was set.

At the age of fifteen I convinced my father to let me buy my first bike. I raised a tobacco crop and that was the funding for this. A trip to a local(20 some miles away) Honda dealer and home we came with a new 1972 CL175, Magna Red in color. I remember I was focused more on the bike in the back of my father's pick-up than I was on anything else during the ride home.

Well that was a few years ago and a bike or two also. After a few false starts I finally got my life on track and what you see in these pages is the result. A business that pays the bills and is constantly extending the carrot of a better future. In my personal life I am married to a pretty little woman named Sheila and we have a very precious girl child by the name of Sarah Ann who was born Jan. 31 1998.

This business has consumed a major portion of my life since its beginning. I have accumulated a great amount of knowledge(forgotten quite a bit of it), met some very good people and made a few good friends. Overall I have enjoyed being in this business and I hope to continue in it. It still seems to offer more and it is my fervent wish that the more finds me.

A brief over view of the business
Back around 1984 I was knocking about with not much to do. I had already tried to start a small shop with a friend of mine. Unfortunately it did not work out. After reassessing the situation I went out on my own.

As with any business it was crawl before you walk and walk before you run. Boy are my knees sore!! I reopened in my fathers tobacco barn and after a period of three years the business had grown enough to warrant a relocation. The picture on the home page is a picture of the then and now location. There have been a few changes. At that time there was another(you guessed it) tobacco barn sitting there. My father and I built what was basically a side shed on the barn; divided it into a front and back portion and the picture shows what has happened since. We even have a blacktop parking lot. That is big time around here.

The 40 by 40 building came along in the early 90s and just recently we have completed a 40 by 80 all steel building for rolling stock. With a little help from my friends and the Lord willing I hope to be setting up a 1600 sq. ft. showroom and sales area in the near future. I know that doesn't sound very big by some standards but it will definitely be an improvement here.

Others

As I go along I will try to list some of the people and places that are good to deal with in this space.

As promised here are few numbers for folks I deal with:

Floyds Inc. (A great single line Honda dealer)

Phone: 859-236-1425

Website: www.floydscycle.com

Small note about Floyds Cycle; these folks have treated me like family almost from the very beginning of our business/friendship. Mere words alone cannot express my feelings for these good people. At times I can only wonder why they treat me as well as they do.

Lees Inc. ( A four line dealership, selling Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Alpha Sport)

Phone: 859-734-5150

Website: www.leesinc.com

A note about Lees; ( brown nosing again here)

The folks at Lees have been very good to me. Our business relationship has spanned the most of my 20 years in business. They have always dealt with me fairly and extended a helping hand to me more times than I can recall. Their willingness to share their hard earned intimate knowledge of their lines of machines has helped me in my quest for that hard earned buck.

The people at Floyds and at Lees have been a boon to me and my small business. As I continue to deal in bikes and to deal with these great people, I wonder how and why I deserve their friendship.

Sounds kinda goopy doesn't it. You spend as many years as I have dealing with the same folk and figure it out for yourself. Life ain't all business and money.

A few parts places:

Greens Cycle Salvage

Phone: 270-879-8979

Website: www.greenscycle.com

Note; While I rarely hunt for used parts anymore, Greens is one of the first numbers I give out to other folks looking for parts. Greens parts out a lot of late model sport bikes and cruisers.

Midway Cycle Salvage

Phone: 1-800-232-6686

Website: www.midwaycycle.com

Note: I have dealt with Midway for a number of years and have enjoyed talking with them everytime I called. Got some good parts too!!

BAD BUSINESS!.

Thought I might mention some outfits that are not so hot to deal with! Don't really like to slam anybody, but after I get taken by someone, they are fair game!!

www.copart.com (A money grubbing outfit if ever I saw one) Sign up with this company and watch out. Seriously took me for a ride and then took me a little more. Partly my fault, but straight dealing is not this companies strong suit)
